Acclimation Procedures

It is very important to minimize stress and shock of your new arrivals.
Please follow the instructions below for acclimation.

  1. When your order arrives, take the box to the room where you will be doing the acclimation process.
  2. Dim the lights in the room if possible and turn off the aquarium lights. (It is very dark in the box and bright light can cause stress on your new specimens)
  3. Carefully open the box and remove the plastic bag(s) containing your new specimens.

***DO NOT OPEN THE BAG(S) AT THIS TIME.
ALLOW THE TEMPERATURES TO EQUALIZE BEFORE OPENNING!***

  1. Float the bag in the aquarium for 15 to 20 minutes to equalize the temperature.
  2. Open the bag and add 1 cup of tank water (small bags) or 2 cups of tank water (large bags) every 5 minutes until full.

***PLEASE DO NOT PLACE AN AIRLINE IN THE BAG.
AERATING THE BAG MAY CAUSE A RAPID RISE IN pH.
ALL OF OUR BAGS ARE SEALED WITH PURE OXYGEN.
THERE IS PLENTY OF OXYGEN FOR THE SPECIMENS AT THIS POINT!***

  1. Once filled, empty and discard 1/2 of the water in the bag and repeat step 5.
  2. Once the bag is filled for the second time, gently remove the specimen(s) from the bag and place them in the aquarium. (Seahorses should never be netted. You should thoroughly wash your hands and use your hand to gently enclose the body of the seahorse to lift them out and gently place in the new aquarium before letting go)
  3. Discard the shipping bag and water.
  4. Keep the lights dim for the first day to allow your specimens to settle in to the new environment.
